Suspect in battered-wife case gone viral in police custody

Charges are expected to be laid against a Central businessman who was detained by police yesterday in connection with a domestic violence case that went viral on Facebook.
Central Division police confirmed auto dealer Sheron Sukdeo was held at his Orchard Gardens, Chaguanas, home around 10.30 a.m.
The businessman was taken into police custody at the Chaguanas Police Station where he was interviewed in connection with allegations of domestic abuse made against him by his wife.
Police intervened in the alleged case of domestic violence after the businessman’s wife posted allegations of domestic abuse at the hands of her husband on social media.
The woman has removed herself and two minor children from the Chaguanas home of the alleged attacker.
The woman, who posted photographs of her battered body, was interviewed by the head of the Central Division.
The Express was told the businessman’s wife was given an offer to be taken to a safe house but the offer was refused. A medical report was also obtained from the alleged victim.
The woman will receive counselling from the Victim and Witness Support Unit of the Police Service and the children are to be referred to the Child Protection Unit and the Children’s Authority.
The woman’s allegations of domestic abuse at the hands of her husband have gone viral on social networking site Facebook. She said she has been the victim of domestic violence for the last 12 years.
There is a parallel investigation into the claim made by a man who said he received death threats from a group of men because he had helped the battered woman escape her home.
