Govt should regulate quarries

The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) is rationing our water while quarries in the Northern Range are destroying the aquifers that provide our potable water supply.
Fishermen and Friends of the Sea (FFOS) thinks it outrageous that five months after our new Government has come into power, the Environmental Management Authority (EMA) is still without a board, and therefore unable to act upon or even assess the extent to which quarrying is impacting the sources of our drinking water supply.
Given the anticipated long dry season ahead, FFOS appeals to the leaders of our Government to consider regulating quarries in the areas outlined by the Water Resources Agency. It is urgent that EMA’s board be appointed. Please allow them to fulfil their mandate.
