A SECURITY GUARD who molested a 13-year-old girl at a fast outlet and only stopped when she began screaming, has been sentenced to nine months in prison.
Ashumba Francois, 26 of Pleasantville yesterday entered a guilty plea to the charge. “I was misled by watching a female and touching her,” he said during his court appearance.
Senior magistrate Nannette Fore-John told him his actions were “so disgusting”. She had earlier heard that at 5.15 p.m. on October 6, the girl was purchasing a meal at the counter of KFC, Library Corner, San Fernando. Police prosecutor Cleyon Seedan said, “A security guard walked up to the VC (victim) placed his hand on her vagina and started moving it in an upward and downward direction.” The 13-year-old child screamed.
Francois ran away while the girl exited the outlet and spoke to her mother who stopped a marked police vehicle. The girl gave a report to constable Brent Noel while in her mother's presence. Seedan said Noel went to Wendy's fast food outlet located at Library Corner, San Fernando where he spoke to the manager. The officer went to the basement of the establishment where he found Francois hiding in a room. As Francois was escorted out of the food outlet the girl identified him as the person who touched her.
Noel charged Francois for sexually touching the child. The charge was laid under the Children's' Act. Forde-John told Francois that he faced a maximum sentence of ten years in prison or a fine of $50,000.
“You can't just go around touching women, particularly girls, a big fella like yourself. So disgusting to violate a person like that, to violate a young person.” the magistrate told Francois whose criminal record showed he had a previous conviction for assault with intent to rob.
Forde-John sentenced him to nine months hard labour.
