Mayor of Chaguanas Gopaul Boodhan, in collaboration with Tabaquite Member of Parliament Surujrattan Rambachan and artist Sirju Seeharack Mohan, will have an art exhibition to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of East Indian indentureship in Trinidad and Tobago.
The exhibition, titled “Facets of My Country: People, Place, Culture and Traditions”, represents a lifetime of work by Mohan. A private showing was done for the media last week Friday. There were about 20 paintings on display at Rambachan’s office at Bonne Aventure Main Road, Gasparillo, but the pieces came from a much larger collection comprising about 500 paintings, sculptures, mosaics and murals.
Rambachan said: “I am intrigued by him and his art since I have a bit of knowledge about his background. He has this creative genius within him, but I think it is best expressed here in terms of his paintings. I am very honoured and I feel a sense of gratitude that he has allowed us to use these paintings in this exhibition.
