These days, nearly everyone has a smart phone, tablet or other mobile electronic device.
And mobile applications have made it easier for consumers to access a range of products and services.
If you need entertainment, a job or even a taxi, there's an App for that.
Local businesses should therefore be poised to take advantage of the opportunity to connect with their customers in this convenient, digital way.
It is based on this premise that Novo Media has launched its mobile application development service, aimed at making a company's products and services accessible to customers at the touch of a button or swipe of a finger.
Novo Media is a part of the One Caribbean Media Group, which is the parent company of the Express Newspaper and CCN TV6.
Speaking at the launch of the initiative at the MovieTowne Conference Centre in Port of Spain on Wednesday, John Outridge of Novo Media noted that usage of smart phones and other such devices continues to grow with a projected 50 billion mobile devices to be in use by 2020.
He said these devices have the ability to capture and hold a person's attention and companies need to engage with a person where their attention is.
Mobile apps give businesses the opportunity to not only advertise their products and services but to interact with customers, provide information and get feedback, Outridge said.
Novo Media's role would be to develop and maintain mobile applications for its clients, ensuring the app is up-to-date and compatible with various android and iOS devices and other related services. The company also provides social media management and consultation services.
“It is something that there is a serious market for in Trinidad and Tobago,” said Novo Media general manager Larry Holder.
A number of local companies across various industries have already utilised the company's services and Novo Media boasts of over 150,000 downloads of the various apps it has developed for its clients.
