Tobago is expected to host 36 cruise ship visits for the 2016-2017 season.

At Wednesday's post Executive Council media briefing, Secretary of Tourism and Transportation Tracy Davidson-Celestine said Windward Tobago will see an increase in the number of cruise ship calls.

“We have had 12 calls between October to the beginning of January,” Davidson-Celestine said, “and I also must indicate that Charlotteville is benefiting significantly from cruise arrivals to Tobago, and for this cruise ship season they will be seeing an increase in calls by about twelve cruise ships or so.”

She said this isn't just a boost for the tourism industry, but an opportunity for local businesses too. The Secretary said one of her Division's goals has been to increase the number of visitors to the island.

“Our strategic priorities were focused on, one, maintaining (the) current air lift to the destination, as well as increasing the air lift to the destination. And that also relates to cruises....”

The Division has also brought two new cruise ships to the island: Carnival and Crystal Cruises.
