Taxi-driver killed after car crashes into garbage truck

A TAXI-DRIVER died almost instantly after crashing into a garbage truck along the Solomon Hochoy Highway on Monday night.
Vishen Toondar­singh, 40, of Marabella, suffered multiple injuries after his car crashed into the truck.
Around 11 p.m., Toondarsingh was headed north in his Nissan B-14 car along the highway when, in the vicinity of the Claxton Bay overpass, he struck the garbage truck from behind.
A relative of his who did not want to be identified said it is believed Toon­darsingh was headed to Felicity, Cha­guanas, to the home of his girlfriend.
Officers of the Highway Patrol and Couva Police Station, as well as fire officers, responded.
Toondarsingh’s body was taken out of his vehicle by fire officers who used the hydraulic “Jaws of Life” tool.
Toondarsingh is the fifth road fatality of the year.
