Did boy, 8, get HIV from contaminated blood?*

Health Minister: Terrence Deyalsingh

The Ministry of Health is investigating whether three persons, including an eight-year-old boy, contracted HIV from contaminated blood at the National Blood Transfusion Service.
This was indicated by Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh in response to a question on the matter from Chaguanas West MP Ganga Singh in the House of Representatives International Waterfront Centre, Port of Spain, yesterday.
Singh initially asked what measures were in place at the National Blood Transfusion Service to ensure that HIV-contaminated blood from donors was not used in the health care system.
Deyalsingh said all blood was tested for HIV prior to use and if found positive, it is discarded.
