Regiment probing ‘sexually improper’ incident

THE Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force (Regiment) yesterday confirmed it was investigating a claim of sexually inappropriate behaviour involving persons training to become potential officer cadets at Teteron Barracks, Chaguaramas.
According to a release from the Ministry of National Security, “a formal report on the incident was recently made by the alleged victim although the purported matter is reported to have occurred in the latter half of last year”.
The ministry assured “there will be no cover-up” and the acting Commanding Officer of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment, Colonel Dexter Francis, stressed the “Defence Force does not and will not condone any form of misconduct regardless of the circumstances”.
“The Regiment and, by extension, the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force assures the public that all steps to ensure that this matter is dealt with conclusively are being taken.
“The findings of the Regiment’s investigations have been handed over to the police and the Regiment is fully prepared to lend support to the police,” the statement said.
