Prison officer charged with assaulting cop*

A prison officer who allegedly pushed a police inspector, damaged his $10 pen and his shirt, and kicked a man who was in custody while at the San Fernando Administration Building has been placed on bail. Alfred John, 26, of Penal, who had 18 months’ service as a prison officer, appeared before Magistrate Kerrianne Byer in the San Fernando Fifth Court on Friday. He was charged that on Thursday with assaulting acting inspector Ramdhanie Dipchan during the execution of his duties and also maliciously damaged his $10 pen and $250 shirt. It was also alleged that John unlawfully assaulted Howell Junior Pooran.
