Piles of garbage remain after clean-up*

MORE RUBBISH: A pile of garbage on the roadside at Gandhi Village, Debe.

MORE than a month after the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation (PDRC) held its clean-up campaign, as part of the national initiative, piles of solid waste remain dumped in Debe.
Commuters and residents in the area were disturbed by the unsightly images of rubbish at Gandhi Village.
It has now attracted scavengers and what appeared to be scrap iron workers digging through the dump for iron.
Minister of Local Government Kazim Hosein said he was upset over this and intends speaking with the chairman of the regional corporation to have the matter dealt with immediately.
On March 11, PDRC launched its national clean-up campaign with Hosein, who called for stiffer fines for littering.
