Burnt corpse found down Aripo precipice

GRISLY FIND: Crime scene investigators and undertakers view the charred human remains discovered yesterday down a precipice off Aripo Road, Aripo. The body was burnt beyond recognition. No identity was available up to press time.

THE smouldering corpse of a human being was retrieved late yesterday by fire officers down a precipice along Aripo Road, Aripo.
According to police reports, at about 7 a.m. yesterday, officers of the Northern Division received word that a body had been observed down a precipice along the roadway.
A team of officers from the Northern Division, under the supervision of Senior Supt Jacob and Supt David, visited the scene and conducted searches in the area.
However, the body was not discovered until about 2 p.m. yesterday. When officers arrived on location, the body was still smouldering and the area around it blackened. There appeared to be pieces of wood and galvanise next to the corpse.
However, due to the location of the body—estimated to be about 50-75 feet down the precipice—the police contacted fire officers from the Fire Service Search and Rescue Unit for assistance.
The fire officers arrived on location shortly after 5 p.m. and were able to aid the police in retrieving the body.
There were no identifying documents near the corpse. Up to press time last night police had no official motive for the death.
