A predictable chaos*

Finance Minister Colm Imbert had been repeatedly warned by many individuals and organisations that the deadline he had set for submission of property tax returns was impractical and guaranteed to cause widespread confusion and hardship for the average taxpayer.
With customary curtness, he dismissed such concerns and proceeded according to his own plan. As concerns mounted, he took to skirting questions, hiding behind the fig leaf of a pre-action protocol letter sent to him by attorneys Anand Ramlogan and Gerald Ramdeen.
Now that the inevitable has occurred, with long lines stretching from Point Fortin to Scarborough, he has re-considered his position and goes to Cabinet today with a recommendation for a two-week extension.
