Suspended cop charged with murder

...to appear in court

A police officer on suspension is due to appear before the Tunapuna Magistrates' Court today, charged with the murder of Raj Akash Singh, following a family dispute, at his home on May 11th.

Kumar Bharath, 44, of Pasea Road Extension, Tunapuna, was charged with murder of Raj Akash Singh, after advice was received from the Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard

 He also faces an additional charge of common assault.

 Singh, 24, a PH driver, also of Pasea Road Extension, Tunapuna, was shot at his home during an altercation. He was taken to hospital, where he subsequently died.

Both Bharath and the victim occupied premises in an extended family arrangement.

 Bharath was suspended from the service in March 2015 after being charged with driving under the influence and resisting arrest. He was charged by ASP (Ag.), Windel Flaviney of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region 2.
