THE Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has removed 357 firearms off the streets for the year so far.
This was disclosed yesterday by ASP Michael Pierre during the weekly press briefing at the police administration building, Edward Street, Port of Spain.
This figure, Pierre said, represented an 8.5 per cent increase in the number of firearms seized for the corresponding period in 2016— which stood at 329.
This, he noted, showed a positive trend as 2016 ended with the largest number of firearms removed/seized in the history of the TTPS, with a total of 765.
This figure, Pierre said, was 11 per cent greater than the 691 seized for the previous year (2015) and 31 per cent greater than the 2014 figure, which stood at 585.
