20,000 public workers stayed home*

Public Services Association president Watson Duke claims thousands of public servants heeded his call to remain at home yesterday, in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Bret.
Duke told the Express that 90 per cent of public servants did not show up for work yesterday.
“Ninety per cent would account for some 20,000-plus workers staying home from work,” he said.
On Monday night, Duke issued an advisory to public servants to take the day off yesterday and “consider it a day at home with your wife, husband and children”.
“The Minister of Education cannot advise school children to stay at home. The Bankers Association cannot advise banks to close their doors.
