TEENAGER David Sancaro was killed by an irate motorist after he and his friends defended a woman in a fight with a male friend on Sunday.
Sancaro, 17, of Fyzabad, died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Police said a suspect surrendered to them shortly after the incident.
Officers were told that Sancaro was liming with two friends at Primo's Bar at Dow Village, South Oropouche.
At around 9 p.m. Sancaro and his friends intervened in an altercation between a woman and the suspect outside the bar.
Police were told that they began to argue with the suspect, and one of the group threw a stone which struck the suspect's Ford Ranger pickup van.
The suspect jumped into his vehicle and drove off.
Sancaro and his friends left the bar and were walking along Red Brick Trace when the van was seen speeding towards them.
The group ran, but Sancaro was struck by the vehicle.
The driver sped off from the scene.
Video footage on social media showed people performing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on Sancaro at the scene.
He was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
An autopsy is expected to be performed at the Forensic Sciences Centre today.
