Keshorn Walcott made a winning return to competition, the Trinidad and Tobago field athlete topping the men’s javelin field at the Savo Games in Lapinlahti, Finland, yesterday.
Forced out of last month’s T&T Championships with a sore back, Walcott threw 83.22 metres in his comeback meet to strike gold, ahead of German Lars Hamann (82.23m) and Estonia’s Tanel Laanmae (79.42m).
Walcott opened at 83.22, fouled in round two, and threw 81.68 in the third round. The 2012 Olympic champion fouled again, but followed up with an 80.26 effort in round five. He then closed off his Savo Games campaign at 79.02. Walcott’s best throw this season is 86.61m. He has also thrown 86.48.
Meanwhile, Michelle-Lee Ahye finished strong at the IAAF Diamond League meet in Rabat, Morocco, yesterday, to secure bronze in the women’s 100 metres dash. The T&T track star clocked 11.02 seconds.
