U-17 title race up for grabs after T&T fall to Windwards*

TAROUBA

The battle for the Cricket West Indies Regional Under-17 trophy will go down to the wire after defending champions and current leaders Trinidad and Tobago lost a tense contest against the Windward Islands in the penultimate round of the competition at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, yesterday.
T&T, who were leading the standings on 18.4 points heading into yesterday’s round of matches, could only muster 148 all out against the 2015 winners, Windwards. Chasing 147 to win from a revised 48 overs, the Windwards replied with 149 for eight off 47.2 overs to seal a two-wicket victory and stay in the hunt for their second title in three years.
T&T’s total was all thanks to Avinash Mahabirsingh, who slammed one six and ten fours in a top-score of 63 off 61 balls. But it wasn’t enough in the end despite a few early strikes from T&T pacer Jayden Seales and a couple of late ones from Mahabirsingh and Nicholas Ali that took the game down to the final over.
