UN: T&T’s debt level unsustainable *


 

TRINIDAD and Tobago is among countries with unsustainable debt levels, the executive head of a United Nations (UN) agency showed yesterday during a presentation in Santiago, Chile.

The UN's Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) regional office at Chancery Lane, Port of Spain, invited the news media and other stakeholders to view the presentation via live webcast.

ECLAC Executive Secretary Alicia Bárcena said debt levels at or below 35-40 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) can be considered sustainable.

Trinidad and Tobago is at 62 per cent of GDP, her chart with Caribbean countries showed.
