More Fire and Fight Spirit were declared joint winners of the Paharry Sport Club windball cricket extravaganza at the Paharry Recreation Ground, Sangre Grande on Tuesday.
Having progressed to the semi-finals of the 10-team competition, the winners dispatched of two teams from central Trinidad, Pierre Road United and Rising Warriors, to set up a championship clash, but fading light only allowed for one ball to be bowled in the final before the match was called off and the teams declared joint champions.
The teams shared the first prized of $5,000.
Akeem Alvo of Fight Spirit walked away with the “Most Valuable Player” award while his captain Chris Pattia, picked up the “Best Captain” award. More Fire's Andy Richard copped the “Best Batsman” award and his teammate Dillion Pattia was adjudged the “Best All-rounder”.
One of the highlight of the competition was the use of a 14 karat gold coin in taking the toss. The coin, which weighs 20 grams, has main sponsor DP6 engraved on one side while Paharry Hardware entrusted on the other.
Tuesday's competition served as the launch for the league, which will carry a top prize of $15,000.
