Captain Hayden Pritchard, has been promoted to the rank of Commodore and appointed Chief of Defence Staff by President Anthony Carmona effective Wednesday.
Captain Pritchard has thirty-two years' service in the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force.
Colonel Archilus L.N. Phillips, who has thirty-four years' service in the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, has been promoted to Brigadier General and appointed Vice Chief of Defence Staff effective July 26.
The present Chief of Defence Staff Major General Rodney A. Smart has been promoted to the rank of Major General and will proceed on retirement from Wednesday.
The men were presented with their instruments of promotion and appointment today by the Minister of National Security Edmund Dillon, at a ceremony held at the Ministry of National Security, in Port of Spain.
During his address, Dillon noted that Pritchard will be the third Coast Guardsman to attain the appointment of Chief of Defence Staff, the last Commodore having been appointed to Chief of Defence Staff seventeen years ago.
