Second man charged in 'stomping' death

A second has been charged in the stomping death of Akeno Thomas, an attack captured on surveillance cameras.

Adio Mustapha Smith appeared before Tunapuna Magistrate Indrani Cedeno on Friday charged with the murder.

Smith, also called 'Gecco', 30, of Pioneer Drive, Sea Lots, was remanded in prison custody and the matter adjourned to August 14. 

Earlier this week, Kareem Richardson, 20, was charged with murdering Akeno Thomas.

Richardson, 20 of Beetham Gardens, Port of Spain, was also charged with possession of firearm and possession of ammunition. He was remanded in prison custody.

Akeno Thomas, 36, of Lackpat Road, El Dorado, was at Pentecostal Road, El Dorado, around 9:15pm, on July 27 when he was shot at by two armed men. He was hit in the thigh and fell into a drain, as a result of the injury. One of the assailants then jumped into the drain and proceeded to stomp on the victim's head and body.  

Thomas was taken to hospital, where he died the following day.
