“I WILL be fair and independent.”
This was the promise from former president of the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Commerce Christian Mouttet, who was yesterday announced by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley as the sole investigator into the “circumstances surrounding the procurement of the Cabo Star and the Ocean Flower II and the entering into the charter party agreement for these vessels”.
Mouttet said he accepted Rowley’s request to investigate as a matter of public service, and believed the stipulated 30 days to submit a report on the matter was within his capabilities at this time.
In a brief statement yesterday, the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) advised of Mouttet’s appointment and said he will be provided with support from the Ministry of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs.
It is expected the report will be delivered within 30 days, the OPM stated.
Mouttet told the Express in a telephone interview that while he didn’t have a background in investigative work, he brought tools to the table from a 25-year career that involves “fairly complex and sophisticated negotiations and great experience”.
