Less than 24 hours after the Coromandel Village Road was paved, it collapsed after a Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) line ruptured.

The collapse happened on  Wednesday evening.

Cedros Councillor Shankar Teelucksingh said, “Just yesterday (Wednesday) the Ministry of Works completed works along the road and some heavy machinery equipment passed along it and it ruptured a WASA line. And this rupture was at the joint which is the hardest part to damage and overnight the road caved-in”.

He said crews from from the Ministry of Works, WASA and the Siparia Regional Corporation were working to repair the damaged.

He said this area recently had a landslide which led to a portion of the road being repaved.

Teelucksingh said traffic was being diverted to Austin Road and Granville Road so that commuters can by-pass the traffic into Coromandel village.
