Chinese national jailed for trying to bribe cop*

CHINESE national Wuying Li has been sentenced to five months in prison for attempting to bribe a police officer.
Li entered a guilty plea when she appeared before Princes Town Magistrate Indira Misir-­Gosine yesterday,
She was charged with corruptly giving a gift—the sum of $2,000—to Sgt Richardson as an inducement or reward for his forbearing to do an act in relation to his principal affairs or business, to wit, the arresting of a male person of Chinese descent suspected of being an illegal immigrant.
The court heard that at 11.45 a.m. on August 2, in Princes Town, Richardson and another officer went to Jin Xin Supermarket in Princes Town where they met a man of Chinese descent standing at the back of the establishment.
