Thank you for saving my daughter.
A grateful Cristal Mohammed, who thanked Trinidad and Tobago citizens yesterday, said it was the happiest day in her life because her prayers were answered and the $400,000 needed to enable her five-year-old daughter, Haleema Mohammed, to undergo treatment in India was raised through the generosity of corporate Trinidad.
After the Children's Life Fund (CLF) rejected the Mohammeds' application for financial help for Haleema and her story went public, in less than 24 hours, the balance of the money was raised as generous businessmen and women whipped out their cheque books to fund the medical care expenses.
Haleema suffers from beta thalassaemia—a blood disorder—and doctors in India are willing to perform surgery to bring relief. The surgery, treatment, accommodation and flight will cost the family $454,000. The family had been able to secure $208,000 up to Thursday afternoon.
