AT least two international security agencies have called on senior officials of the Organised Crime, Narcotics and Firearms Bureau (OCNFB) to state whether there is any truth to reports that one of its officers is under criminal investigation.
The agencies, sources say, have provided key information to OCNFB since the tenure of then-assistant commissioner of police Kathleen Weekes, who once headed OCNB, and are expressing concern over reports that an inspector has been allegedly involved in criminal activities.
OCNFB is currently headed by Senior Supt Lloyd McAlpin.
Efforts to contact McAlpin were unsuccessful. Sources say he is currently abroad.
The 46-year old officer in question, along with his 36-year old wife, is in police custody. The two are expected to be charged under the Criminal Proceeds Act, following an 18-month investigation by detectives of the Fraud Squad, led by Senior Supt Totaram Dookie.
