Teen driver dies in Mercedes Benz crash

...16-year-old passenger survives

AN 18-year-old Maracas student was killed in a car crash on Sunday.

Ryun Crawford, of Lennox Phillip Drive, Maracas Gardens, died at the scene.

A passenger in the vehicle, 16 year old Nikhil Gopaul, a student of Westmoorings, is warded at hospital.

Police said Crawford was driving a E 250 Mercedes Benz with Gopaul in the front passenger seat.

A police report stated that at around 9.45 p.m. Crawford was proceeding south of the Solomon Hochoy Highway when upon reaching Gandhi Village, Debe, he attempted to switch lanes.

The report said that he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a lightpole. The wreckage of the vehicle ended up 25 feet from the highway.

A district medical officer examined the body and ordered it removed for an autopsy today.

The survivor is in hospital listed in a stable condition.
