Regarding the current locust invasion affecting Rio Claro and the nearby areas, please allow me to make a statement.
It is a fact that locust swarms move long distances, especially when weather conditions permit. And they travel very long distances, when winds assist in their transport, whether they intend to travel or not.
Whereas Trinidad itself may harbour a few strains of this vermin, we need to look farther away as a source of locusts that can reach, by being transported, to the island.
The nation is aware that wind oscillations reaching the West Indies sometimes originate far off to the East.
