Experts call attention to region’s education ‘emergency’


IN what can best be described as a human resource development emergency for Caricom member states, a panel of exports meeting over the last three years, has come up with a plan to halt what would otherwise be an inexorable slide into social and economic chaos across the region.

At the 38th regular meeting of Caricom Heads of government in Grand Anse, Grenada, last July, the leaders were briefed on a document called the Caricom Human Resource Development report.

It aims to radically alter the radically address deficiencies in the education system across member states with a set of expressed intentions for the turning out of essentially a new kind of Caribbean man and woman.

Heads of government were presented with copies of the report, and reporters were briefed on its contents at a news conference during the summit.
