Ramesh not paid so quits CL case *

SENIOR counsel Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj, who was leading the case for a group of CL Financial shareholders in the State's petition for the winding up of the conglomerate, will no longer be appearing on their behalf.

This comes after it was revealed in court yesterday that the senior attorney had removed himself from the case given that, to date, he has not been paid at least some of the monies owed to him for his previous work in the matter which began in July.

When the petition came up for hearing before Justice Kevin Ramcharan at the Hall of Justice in Port of Spain, the judge referred to correspondence from one of Maharaj's junior attorneys who indicated that Maharaj will no longer be appearing in the petition due to issues surrounding the non-payment of his retainer fees.
