Atlantic evacuates workers due to fire*

Atlantic’s gas process facility in Point Fortin was evacuated on Tuesday, following a fire at one of its power generation units.
The situation was brought under control and employees have re­turned to work, the Express was told.
A release from Atlantic stated the incident occurred around 2.15 p.m.
“At around 2.15 p.m. today (September 12), there was a fire at one of the power generation units on Atlantic’s Point Fortin plant. The company’s response and safety systems were immediately activated as per design,” it said.
Atlantic said the fire was quickly extinguished and there were no injuries. Technical teams conducted checks of the facility and the company was in the process of advising relevant stakeholders.
Point Fortin Mayor Abdon Mason said he was pleased with the company’s response.
