Family First Foundation for Children – a home for orphaned children – has been ordered to cease operations by the Children’s Authority of Trinidad and Tobago.
The Family First Foundation is one of the homes which provide housing and care for abandoned and at-risk children.
In a release yesterday, the authority stated that the home’s manager has been notified that she was not authorised to receive any child into her care at this time and failure to comply would lead to the initiation of legal proceedings.
The home, located at Calder Hall, Tobago, was being monitored by the authority for several months, as reports were received regarding the standard of care provided to the children.
Last Friday, fire destroyed parts of the home’s building and the children were relocated, the authority stated.
“The authority is collaborating with social workers attached to the Tobago House of Assembly, Department of Health, Wellness and Family Development to ensure the safety of the children who resided at the home.
