A Trinidadian family trapped on the hurricane-ravaged island of Tortola, British Virgin Islands, was expected to return home last night.
Jason Mezelie, an immigration officer, his wife Shervon Charles and their two-year-old daughter Jenae have been staying at a shelter since Hurricane Irma’s passage last week.
Mezelie’s mother, Maria Marsely, has been desperately appealing for help to have her son and his family return home.
Marsely, of Trincity, had contacted the Ministry of Foreign and Caricom Affairs seeking assistance.
“I called a few days ago asking for help to bring my son and his family home. I did not hear from them again. And this morning when my son called me to say he was desperate and wanted to come home, I felt helpless. I called the ministry again. The girl said she has no information.
