THE BODY of a Dominican Republic woman who was stabbed to death last week is expected to be returned to her home country for her final rites.
Police said that officials of the Dominican Republic embassy in Trinidad and Tobago have taken charge of contacting the deceased's relatives in the Dominican Republic and having the body flown to them.
Yaira Esther Echavarria Rodriguez, 26, died after she got into a knife-fight at a walkover in Charlieville with a man over a $1,000 debt he owed her.
Her body was found by a passerby at the walkover.
A man, of Charlieville, who allegedly confessed to the killing, was arrested on Tuesday.
Police said the suspect had been warded under police guard at the San Fernando General Hospital and was discharged on Sunday.
He was taken to a police station in the Central police division where homicide detectives were expected to interview him on Monday.
Police said that Rodriguez was married, and that the husband was assisting embassy officials with contacting her relatives.
