Elias quits as TSTT chairman*

‘with immediate effect’: Emile Elias

CONTRACTOR Emile Elias yesterday resigned with “immediate effect” as the chairman of majority State-owned Telecommunication Services of T&T (TSTT) and its wholly owned subsidiary Massy Communications.
In a five-page letter of resignation, Elias cited the fact that his construction company, NH International (Caribbean) Ltd, was “now facing unexpected challenges which require me to devote far more time to its future,” according to TSTT sources.
In explaining his decision to resign to the board and management of the company, Elias made clear that his reference to “unexpected challenges” was not to the economic downturn, which has caused scores of construction companies to be financially hard-pressed because of the lack of work locally and slow payment for Government jobs.
