Rio Claro robbers nabbed after spate of crimes

FOUR MEN who police believe had been robbing residents of Rio Claro in recent weeks were arrested on Tuesday.

The suspects – three of Navet Village, and the fourth of Rochard Road, Penal- were arrested shortly after they allegedly robbed a bar, its patrons, and a pedestrian on the road.

At around 9 p.m. Rio Claro CID officers received a report that four men in a Nissan Almera robbed Baboo's bar along Naparima Mayaro Road, Libertville.

Armed with firearms the thieves entered the bar and robbed the bar proprietor, and four patrons. They escaped in their vehicle.

Minutes earlier police had received another report that a pedestrian was robbed along the same road. Cpl Singh, PCs Abraham, Charles, Wilkinson and Ramdass responded and intercepted the suspects' vehicle.

Police said they recovered some $20,000 in cash, cell phones and jewellery from the suspects' vehicle. A small quantity of marijuana was also found in the car, police said.

They were arrested and taken to the Rio Claro police station where they were expected to be charged with offences of robbery and possession of marijuana.

Police suspect the men were involved in a series of robberies in the Rio Claro area.
