Shiva Boys look to maintain lead

As the fifth round of matches in the Shell/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Premier Division kicks off today, defending champions Shiva Boys Hindu College are in the lead but with just three points separating the top three schools, they can’t afford to take it easy even as they face struggling Trinity College Moka in Maraval.
Shiva Boys, who are on 12 points, are coming off a handsome 5-1 victory over Queen’s Royal College in their mid-week fixture while Trinity were hammered 7-0 by San Juan North Secondary, thanks to a first-half hat-trick from Brandon Semper.
The North Zone InterCol champions, Trinity, will be looking to make their home advantage count against Shiva and pull off their second home win of the 2017 campaign. Trinity’s only win so far this season came at home against Speyside a week ago.
Second place Presentation College San Fernando (10 points) and third place Fyzabad Secondary (9 points) will be waiting to pounce on any slip up by the top side but they too could be in for some stiff competition today.
Pres, who defeated Signal Hill 3-0 in the mid-week fixture, are on the road against Carapichaima East Secondary (seven points), who were held to a 1-1 draw by St Augustine East Secondary in the previous round of matches.
Meanwhile, Fyzabad travel to Westmoorings to face St Anthony’s College, who have rebounded well since losing at home to Caps two weeks ago. The Westmoorings Tigers defeated Signal Hill last week before being held to a 2-2 draw at home to Naparima College.
At the other end of the table, St Mary’s College, Signal Hill and St Benedict’s are still searching for their first win of the season.
The Saints face Signal Hill in Tobago while St Benedict’s have a tough assignment against San Juan North Secondary in Debe.
