Unlike cities like Milan, New York and Paris, there’s still a very simple level of engagement in the Caribbean when it comes to the topic of men’s fashion.
Caribbean women, having opened themselves up to be showpieces for international fashion detail, years ago, have certainly adopted a keen sense of international fashion appreciation, but their male counterparts are only now catching up, it would seem. Enter Trinidad and Tobago men’s fashion designer, Ecliff Elie. His name speaks volumes in the Caribbean in that realm and as he prepares to mark yet another milestone in his illustrious career, with the unveiling of his Italian luxury menswear collection, Prima Volta, he explains how he has managed to intrigue so many Caribbean men with his designs.
“Before the advent of social media and the influence of the World Wide Web, most people looked to television—urban and pop culture for fashion tips and to know what was trending. Social media and the Internet has given even men, a better understanding of fashion and what’s happening outside of the Caribbean,” explained Elie. He said even his brand has grown in popularity thanks to the World Wide Web and social media, crediting his use of social platforms like Facebook and Instagram, for his brand’s surge in general appreciation.
