THE road where incidents of assault have occurred against media workers is a public one.
This was the claim yesterday of Senior Counsel Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj, attorney representing Hanif Nazim Baksh, the owner of A&V Oil and Gas Ltd whose company is at the centre of allegations involving several media houses where journalists have been assaulted outside its premises in Penal.
The company claimed last week the incidents happened on its private property.
However, Maharaj said the road where the incidents allegedly occurred was not privately owned by Baksh.
“The media asked me on the tour whether the road is a private road or if it belongs to Mr Baksh. I have done some investigations. The road is a public road,” he said during a newss conference at his San Fernando office yesterday.
Baksh absented himself from the news conference to defend his company against allegations related to the “fake oil” issue at Petrotrin's onshore wells.
