Rain plays havoc again in ‘St Augustine’*

RAIN has really made it a nightmare beginning to the first national junior tournament at the St Augustine Recreation Club, McCarthy Street, St Augustine, in seven years.
After just three hours of play on the second day of its inaugural junior tournament yesterday, the heavens opened at around noon.
When the rain had not stopped three hours later, officials got permission to utilise the indoor courts at National Racquet Centre, but only two of the four courts at the Orange Grove Main Road, Tacarigua, are available because the others have been set up for badminton and table tennis.
Play started at around 4 p.m. but about half-hour later, another obstacle popped up when power was lost in the area.
Thankfully the electricity came back after another half-hour and play resumed. However, only about ten of the 28-odd matches on the programme were completed by press time, and it was very unlikely that officials would have been able to get through more than half of the schedule by the 9 p.m. finish time.
