'Hitmen attacking the pockets'*

Describing the 2018 budget as “essentially an act of terror” against citizens, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar said it was as if two sets of hitmen attacked people's pockets—the bandits and the Minister of Finance. As she attacked the taxes in the “brutal budget” during her response to the budget in the House of Representatives yesterday, she said they would not affect all people equally, contrary to Finance Minister Colm Imbert's claim of sharing the burden equitably.
