Revenge, it is said, is a dish best served cold.

Almost 28 years after the United States denied Trinidad and Tobago a World Cup berth with a 1-0 win in Port of Spain, on November 19, 1989, T&T beat the US 2-1 in their final Russia 2018 World Cup Qualifier at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

The victory, being savoured this morning by all of T&T, has denied the US a spot in next year's finals.

T&T built a two-goal first half lead through Shahdoh Winchester (17th minute) and Alvin Jones (36th) leaving the Americans head coach Bruce Arena scratching his head.

Rising US star Christian Pulisic pulled a goal back in the opening minute of the second half, when given too much room to shooting. It have the US hope of a come back.

Winchester, Nathan Lewis and Levi Garcia all had second half chances to extend T&T's  lead and goalkeeper Adrian Foncette twice maintained the lead with spectacular saves.

In the end, the home team achieved what many thought was beyond them.
