Bees board water taxi

...sailing delayed

THE 6.30a.m. sailing of the water taxi from San Fernando to Port of Spain was delayed this morning for an unlikely reason – bees!

The Express was told that when the crew arrived at daybreak and fired up the vessel to prepare it for the 40-minute trip to the capital, they raised a swarm of bees that had apparently descended on the vessel over the long weekend.

Passengers who were waiting to board were told of the delay which lasted about 90 minutes.

Passenger said they noted a man dressed in protective gear leaving the vessel and when they boarded, there were dead bees littering the platform used to access the boat.

Passengers were compensated for their troubles with a free ticket.

There was no immediate comment from the National Infrastructure Development Company Limited (NIDCO), which oversees the operation of the water taxi service.
