CONTRACTOR Ashmead Ali has called on fellow businesspeople to donate some of their equipment to clearing watercourse sin their area in an attempt to negate the level of catastrophic flooding happening in Trinidad.
In a Facebook post, Ali, who also donated a 5,000 tonne-capacity barge to the Dominican hurricane relief effort, wrote: “Trinidad , our country needs our help. Many contractors, like myself, have heavy equipment like excavators parked up for the last 2 years. Let us adopt a segment of a river channel and clean the rivers in our area”.
He stated that the country could not afford to have homes being damaged every time there was a passing Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) or “dark cloud”.
Ali said he would start by using two of his excavators in his area.
“Let's get a move on” he stated.
