People living in parts of Trinidad have awoken to pounding rainfall that threatens to worsen the already catastrophic flooding being experienced in low lying villages and areas near swollen rivers.

It has been raining persistently since Wednesday morning.

The Meteorological Office's forecast this morning was is for cloudy and at times breezy with periods of rain or showers in varying localities. There is a high chance that some of these showers would become heavy and thundery.

The Met Office is predicting flash flooding and landslides.
