Dad convicted for beating daughter: Facing jail time


A father of three girls has been convicted on a charge of cruelty against one of his daughters.

De Leon Celestine was fined $3,000 or in default, will go to prison for three months.  

Celestine, 41, of East Dry River, Port of Spain, appeared before Port of Spain Magistrate Aden Stroude on Thursday.

Celestine was found guilty of beating his 14-year-old daughter, in June 2016 causing suffering and injury to her health.

The child disclosed the beating to a school social worker the next day, who referred the matter to the Child Protection Unit.  

Celestine was charged by WPC Ann-Marie Rudder, of the Child Protection Unit.
