Steep land discount through Self-Help Housing Programme *

Mitchell: Not Caroni workers’ lots


Housing Minister Randall Mitchell says the housing lots identified for allocation under the ministry's recently-launched Government Aided Self-Help Housing Programme are not the lots which former Caroni (1975) Ltd workers are entitled to.

Mitchell launched the new programme last Friday, explaining that successful applicants will be able to purchase lots for 30 per cent of the market value and receive support from the State to build their own homes.

He said 1,000 lots have been identified for distribution in the first cycle of the programme, from former Caroni lands.
