‘Burkie’ wants $$ from State *

LACK OF EVIDENCE: Cedric Burke


ALLEGED gang leader Cedric “Burkie” Burke is seeking compensation from the State, after he was arrested and charged under the anti-gang legislation during this country's State of Emergency (SoE) six years ago, but eventually released due to a lack of evidence.

He and another man, Keon Bain, were arrested in late August 2011 at Hyatt Regency Hotel in Port of Spain and they have taken legal action against the Office of the Attorney General, claiming they were wrongfully arrested, falsely imprisoned and maliciously prosecuted. They are just two of approximately 44 other individuals who have filed lawsuits seeking compensation after being arrested and prosecuted under the Act but eventually freed.
